To start it all off I went to see the newly opened Gallery Eros in Copenhagen. Having studied the website I got the impression the gallery´s focus was on erotica from the 19th Century, but visiting the physical premises of the gallery, I found that there was probably as much contemporary erotic art on display, as erotica from previous centuries.
Another aspect I did not pick up on from browsing the website, was the number of erotic objects on display in the gallery. These include bronze, ceramic and mixed media sculpture. For instance there was a wonderful old German public wending machine for the contraceptive pill ... fascinating.
There were also other curiosities but the one that appealed to me the most, was the erotic textiles from Icelandic artist Rut Ríkey Tryggvadóttir. This female artist makes the most sumptuous cushions which almost scream out to be touched.
